It is important to take care of your or your baby's piercings to avoid infection.

Care and Cleaning

• Clean piercing twice a day, especially after shampooing, swimming or exercising
• Always wash hands before cleaning ear
• Use a saline solution for long term cleaning, or isopropyl alcohol for short term ear care
• Pour ear care solution onto cotton swab, push the earring forward and backward gently, swabbing between ear and earring
• Rotate earring twice a day to prevent the earring from sticking to ear
• Avoid touching your ear, except when cleaning
• Cover your ears when using hairspray or perfumes
• Keep earring in between 4-6 weeks
• Do NOT remove earrings before 4 weeks
• Be careful not to get earring stuck in hair while brushing, or putting clothes over your head
• Be careful while exercising and playing sports

Warning Signs

• Pain, redness or swelling for more than 24 hours after piercing is not normal
• Persistent or recurrent redness or swelling could mean your body is rejecting the earring
• This could mean you can’t wear pierced earrings or you’re allergic to the metal-consult medical provider
• If the earring starts to migrate, it frequently means there’s an infection. Remove the earring and consult medical provider immediately
• Frequently observing proper aftercare procedures will clear up any irritation in the earlobe
• Check the clutch (earring back) to make sure that it’s not too tight. Tightness can cause lack of circulation and redness to the ear
• If after 3 days, the irritation hasn’t cleared, consult your medical provider

Clutch Adjustment

Check daily to see if the clutch (earring back) is properly adjusted for comfort, circulation and proper healing

1. Clean your hand thoroughly
2. Grasp the front of the earring in one hand, and the clutch with the other hand and gently pull the clutch to the tip of the earring post
3. Listen and feel for a soft ‘click’ as the clutch falls into the notch at the tip of the post

The clutch can move frequently with everyday activities, check for security and comfort.
